Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
LAWRENCEVILLE?The Broncs were swept in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match by defending champion Marist on Thursday. “Marist is the number one team on the women's side for a reason,” said head coach Ed Torres. “They have everyone back from a championship winning team and it showed today.”
For Rider (0-3), senior Shannen Kahler (Ojai, Calif./Chaparral) won four games at sixth singles before falling 6-3, 6-1.
“Shannen is very steady and won the most games today,” Torres added. “It was very windy and she kept the ball in play. Shannen is just a good solid athlete.” Kahler was a two-year letterwinner for the Rider diving team before playing tennis this spring.
At number one singles, junior Danielle Morse (Edison/Hopewell Valley) lost a hard fought match 6-1, 6-1.
“Danielle didn't win many games,” said Torres. “But she won a lot of points, off the best player in the MAAC for the past two years. Danielle played very well and sustained some long rallies.”
The men's team travels to Manhattan for a MAAC match on Friday with the women's team hosting La Salle on Saturday in a non-conference match. “We match up well against La Salle,” Torres added. “It will be a more competitive match than we had today."
