LAWRENCEVILLE ? The Rider University men's and women's tennis teams were swept by Fairfield in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match Sunday afternoon.  Fairfield has a good team,” said head coach Ed Torres.  “Our women did not do that well, but they just played a better team.  Our men played a good match.  You can see by the scores that everybody was competitive.”

The Rider men put up a tough fight, with the first three singles matches going to three sets.

“In the first, second and third singles, our men took a set,” said Torres.  “Casey [Jedlinski], Josh [Rultenberg], and Will [Haight] all played well.”

In first singles, junior Casey Jedlinski (Manalapan) lost his match 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 while freshman Josh Rultenberg (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) lost 6-4, 3-6, 10-4 in second singles.  Sophomore Will Haight (Turnersville/Washington Township) was defeated 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in third singles.

The women's team hosts Saint Joseph's University on Monday and closes out the regular season with a MAAC match against Siena College Tuesday.

Both the men and women will conclude the spring seasons at the MAAC Championships at the United States Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. April 18-20.

“The matches leading up to the MAAC Championships will be great tune-ups," added Torres.
