Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
JERSEY CITY?The Rider University women's tennis team opened the 2008 spring schedule at Saint Peter's and were swept in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match Thursday afternoon. “We played a team in Saint Peter's that was much improved from last season,” said head coach Ed Torres. “We're playing with five new players so we are a team that is a little in transition.”
For Rider (0-5, 0-2 MAAC), sophomore Kristina Paich (Stanhope/Lenape Valley) won five games over two sets. “Kristina had a match that lasted almost two hours,” Torres said. “Every game was contested and there were long, long rallies. She played an excellent match.”
“We've only have five or six practices and Saint Peter's has been playing actual matches because their home court is in a bubble,” Torres added. “That's a huge advantage. It's hard enough with an experienced team but with a team consisting of five newcomers, that makes it twice as tough.”
The Broncs continue their spring schedule on March 28, hosting Loyola in a MAAC match. “We gave it our all and that's all you can ask of the team,” Torres said.
