Men: Drexel University 5, Rider University 2
Women: Drexel University 7, Rider University 0
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.?Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams lost a non-conference match at Drexel Tuesday afternoon. “We were missing two starters on the men's side and three starters on the women's side,” said head coach Ed Torres. “It would have been a tough match anyway but that made it a little harder.”
For the Rider men (2-6, 0-2 MAAC), senior number one singles player Casey Jedlinski (Manalapan) won his seventh match in a row, (6-4, 7-5) with junior Will Haight (Sewell/Washington Township) winning his second singles match 0-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Haight is now on a two match winning streak.
“Casey [Jedlinski] takes his tennis very seriously,” said Torres. “Even on our off days, he is out practicing with his two brothers. He is always training and has improved his game every year since he was a freshman. He is at the peak right now and is playing with a lot of confidence.”
“Overall I've been training really hard,” said Jedlinski. “I have more confidence in my game and I'm not afraid to go for a big shot. I'm stronger physically and mentally. I played in a lot of tournaments over the summer and that really helped me to increase my confidence level.”
For the Rider women (2-7, 0-2 MAAC), freshman Jamie Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow), in her collegiate singles debut, won four games before falling at number six singles 6-1, 6-3.
Both the men's and women's teams complete the fall season at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday.
“It will be good and bad to have the season end on Saturday,” added Jedlinski. “I'll be able to catch up more on my school work so that's the good part. But I'm playing very well right now and I don't want it to end.”
“Mount St. Mary's is always one of the top teams in the Northeast Conference,” Torres added. “It will be a tough challenge but that's the only way you get stronger as a team is to face solid opponents.”
