LAWRENCEVILLE?The Broncs lost to the Cyclones from Iowa State, who are currently ranked second in the nation, in a dual met Friday night in Alumni Gym. “This is for the purpose of showing our kids what March looks like,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor. “I want them to see the amount of work that it takes to be at this top level right now.”

Iowa State (2-0), with seven wrestlers ranked among the top 15 in their respective weight classes, won all 10 bouts. “There is a reason why they are ranked second in the nation,” Taylor said. “It's tough to watch every one of your kids get beat.”

For Rider (0-2) senior Don Fisch (Williamstown, N.J./Delsea), who is ranked fourth in the nation at 141 pounds, moved up a weight to take on the 14^th ranked 149 pounder and lost 3-2. “Donnie and this kid have both beaten each other in the past,” Taylor said, “so hopefully when they meet again it will be Donnie's turn to win. Every match between them has been close. Don has competed with the best in the country at both 141 and 149.”

Rider junior Doug Umbehauer (Shamong, N.J./Lenape), ranked 12^th in the nation, lost to the top ranked wrestler in the nation, 8-4. “That kid was in the NCAA finals last year,” Taylor said.  “Doug was in the match tonight.” 

Rider competes in the Keystone Classic, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania Sunday. “We certainly aren't going to be intimidated by anyone there, after facing (#6) Missouri and Iowa State,” Taylor said.
