Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
LAWRENCEVILLE?Despite a ?double-double' from senior Katrina Stehle, the Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match to Canisius on Sunday afternoon. “Katrina played a great match,” said head coach Emily Ahlquist. “She added another dimension to both our offense and defense. She played very smart.”
The Golden Griffins won in three games 30-23, 30-23, 30-25 however the match saw 16 ties and seven lead changes.
“Canisius was able to go on a few longer runs than we were,” said Ahlquist. “We didn't stop them. They had a few servers who got to us and we passed o.k., we just couldn't put the ball away.”
Stehle (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) compiled 16 digs and 11 kills with a .265 attack percentage. Stehle also added three service aces.
Also for Rider (2-22, 0-14 MAAC), freshman Katelyn Thompson (Tucson, Ariz./Catalina Foothills) had 15 kills with junior Lacey Johnson (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) chipping in with 18 digs.
Freshman Elyse Grassmuck (Seguin, Texas/La Vernia) had 31 assists and 10 digs for the Broncs.
“We came out faster than we did against Niagara on Saturday,” Ahlquist added. “We had some really good points and some really good plays, we just couldn't string anything together.”
Canisius leads the all-time series 11-3 with the last Bronc win during the 2005 season.
Rider travels to Saint Peter's Saturday, November 3 for a MAAC match at 2:00pm.
