Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Game

JERSEY CITY?Despite building leads of 1-0 and 3-2 the Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game in overtime at Saint Peter's Friday. “Saint Peter's is very technical, very skillful with the ball,” Fager said. “They are very good. It was an interesting game. We played on a very sloppy field with the first half rain.”

An ?own goal' by a Saint Peter's defender tied the score at 2-2 and sophomore Kevin Juska (Wall) scored mid-way through the second half to give Rider a 3-2 lead. The goal was Juska's team-high fifth of the season.

“Kevin came in off the bench in the second half and didn't do bad,” Fager said. “He did a good job getting into good spots. He was able to do some right things at the right time.”

Junior AJ Parillo (South River) took a pass from senior Lee Tomasso (Westfield) and scored just 5:20 into the game to give Rider a 1-0 lead. Parillo also assisted on Juska's goal.

Udi Naim scored all four goals for Saint Peter's (9-3-1, 2-1-1 MAAC), including the game-winner just 1:12 into overtime. Naim's second goal just 28 seconds into the second half gave Saint Peter's a 2-1 lead.

His third goal of the game tied the score at 3-3 with seven minutes left in regulation, sending the game into overtime. “The overtime goal was a great goal,” Fager said. “He had a good day against us.”

Saint Peter's out-shot Rider (5-8-1, 0-4-1 MAAC) 29-11, including 14-3 in the first half. “At half time I was pleased we were still in the game,” Fager said. “We weren't playing well. The first half we couldn't do much of anything right at all.”

Junior Randall Zapolski (Lawrence) made 10 saves for the Broncs, including seven in the second half. Matthew Lawlor made six saves for the Peacocks.

Rider defeated Saint Peter's 2-1 in overtime at Rider last year.

Rider and Saint Peter's have met 27 times since the series began in 1960, with Rider winning 19, including the previous two.

Rider travels to Manhattan for a 10am MAAC game Sunday.
