Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
BALTIMORE, Md.?The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at Loyola Saturday afternoon. “Overall we came out slow, we were flat and in a conference match, you need a higher level of energy,” said head coach Emily Ahlquist.
The Greyhounds won in three straight 30-22, 30-25, 30-26.
“Our defense was strong,” Ahlquist said. “We just couldn't generate any offense on a consistent basis.”
For Rider (1-17, 0-9 MAAC), junior Lindsay Brant (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) had 11 digs and nine kills with a .222 attack percentage. “Lindsay brought energy to the floor,” Ahlquist said. “She went after the ball and played very smart.”
“Our offense was ok, what really cost us the match was our blocking,” said Brant. “We didn't play our best and Loyola's middle hitters were very strong.”
Also for the Broncs, sophomore Amy Jeary (Depew, N.Y./St. Mary's) had 17 digs, with junior Lacey Johnson (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) adding six kills and 16 digs. Johnson now has 995 digs in her career.
Rider freshman Elyse Grassmuck (Seguin, Texas/La Vernia) had 28 assists and eight digs.
The Broncs have lost 11 straight and host Marist in a MAAC match on Sunday at 1:00pm. The Red Foxes defeated Rider on September 27, by a score of 3-0 in Poughkeepsie, New York. “We are looking to come out strong against Marist on Sunday,” Brant said. “They beat us a few weeks ago and we are looking to avenge that.”
