Rider's Muniz Drafted by USBL
LAWRENCEVILLE?Edwin Muniz, a senior at Rider University, was
selected in the fourth round by the Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs in the
21st annual United States Basketball League (USBL) college draft
Tuesday night.
Muniz is currently playing basketball for Guayama in the Puerto
Rican Professional Basketball Association, and is scheduled to graduate
from Rider in May. Muniz is the ninth Rider basketball player in the
last five years to sign a professional contract.
At Rider, Muniz compiled 1,309 points (14th highest ever at Rider)
and 557 rebounds in 115 games. Muniz was one of three players from the
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selected in the USBL draft, with
Jason Wingate of Manhattan and Steve Burtt of Iona being the other two.
With the first pick in the 2006 USBL Draft, the NEPA [Northeast
Pennsylvania] Breakers selected Gerry McNamara from Syracuse
University.
The Pennsylvania team that selected Muniz is coached by former NBA player Darryl Dawkins
The USBL is a developmental league designed to allow players to
showcase their skills for the NBA and other professional leagues. The
eight-team USBL plays from late April through June.
