Rider Athletes of the Year
Field Hockey's Ang,  Basketball's Johnson

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ-Christina Ang of the field hockey team, and Jerry Johnson of the basketball team, have been named the Rider University Athletes of the Year for the 2004-2005 academic school year.  Both are recent 2005 Rider graduates.

Ang (Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Regional), the Northeast Conference Player of the Year, set single season and career scoring marks at Rider this season, earned All-Region honors, and was chosen to play in the National Senior All-Star game.

Johnson (Lancaster, PA/J. P. McCaskey), a first team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and first team All-MET Basketball Writers (NY, NJ) selection as a senior, was named the CollegeInsider.com Mid Major National Player of the Year this winter.

Johnson led Rider to a share of first place in the MAAC regular season and to the MAAC Tournament Championship game, finishing among the top five in the MAAC in both scoring (18.4 ppg) and assists (4.47 per game) while finishing in the top 10 in the nation in free throw percentage (.892).

Only the second Bronc to ever compile over 2,000 career points, Johnson was invited to the prestigious Portsmouth Invitational, a showcase for the top 64 college seniors in the nation.

Ang, who broke her own NEC scoring records with 21 goals and 46 points this year, finished sixth in the nation in goals per game while leading Rider to a third NEC Championship. Ang twice earned conference Player of the Year honors (2003, 2004) and once earned the NEC Tournament MVP award (2002).

Ang broke the Rider scoring records for goals and points that stood since 1984, and her name appeared on the All-America ballot this year.
