LAWRENCEVILLE-- Rider University won twice on Saturday to win its own Rider Classic volleyball tournament, and now owns a winning record (4-3) for the first time since finishing the 1995 season 16-13.

The All-Tournament team consisted of Evette Hoeffner and Jaclyn Levi of Rider, Julie Van Vossen and Gina Campanile of Drexel, Kate Sammon of Sacred Heart, Brittany Daniel of St. Francis and Michele Wilk of Wagner.

Rider defeated Drexel for the first time since 1985, 30-20, 30-23, 30-27, led by freshman Jaclyn Levi (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan), senior Evette Hoeffner (Fairlawn/Fairlawn) and sophomore Amy Householder (Darlington, PA/Blackhawk). Levi compiled 12 kills and 18 digs, Hoeffner had 11 kills and 20 digs, and Householder had 10 kills. Sophomore Laura Berger (Valhalla, NY/Lady of Good Counsel) added 25 assists, four blocks and a pair of service aces.

The Broncs came back to defeat Wagner 30-13, 30-25, 30-22, led by Levi, who compiled 15 kills and 13 digs. Hoeffner added 11 kills and 19 digs, and Householder added 11 kills and 14 digs. Berger contributed 29 assists and four blocks for the Broncs.

Wagner trailed 0-2 before defeating St. Francis-NY 26-30, 27-30, 35-33, 30-22, 15-11 for its first victory of the season. The Seahawks were led by Beth Hayes and Kara Wagner, who combined for 26 kills and 50 digs.

St. Francis-NY fell to 0-7 with a 30-24, 30-12, 30-26 loss to Sacred Heart. Sacred Heart was led by Meghan Eaton's 15 kills and 15 digs. Kate Sammon added 23 assists for the Pioneers.

In the final match of the day, Drexel defeated Sacred Heart 30-27, 30-25, 30-27. The Dragons were led by Angela Tassone, who compiled 21 kills. Gina Campanile added 30 assists.

Rider next competes at the Seton Hall Tournament September 15.
