Rider University 88, St. Peter's College 52
JERSEY CITY-- Senior Mario Porter (Irvington) compiled 28 points and eight rebounds to lead Rider to a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory at St. Peter's Friday.
The 88 points scored is the most for the Broncs since scoring 100 against Marist on February 15, 2001. The 36-point margin is the largest for the Broncs since beating St. Francis-NY 99-61 on January 5, 1993.
Rider (12-8, 8-3 MAAC) led 42-31 at the half. Holding a 53-43 lead with 12:05 left, Rider went on a 17-0 run, eight points by Porter, to take a 70-43 lead with 7:33 left to play.
The victory was the fifth in a row for the Broncs. Rider has now won seven of their last eight games and 10 of the last 13. The Broncs are 8-2 in 2002.
Rider freshman Jerry Johnson (Lancaster, PA/J.P. McCaskey) added 15 points, and sophomore Laurence Young (Providence, RI/Hope) scored 14. Junior Rich Baker (Stroudsburg, PA) added eight rebounds and seven assists, along with seven points.
For St. Peter's (2-17, 1-10 MAAC), Regis Devonish scored 13 points, making three three-point field goals.
Rider hosts Niagara Sunday at 4pm in a MAAC game televised on the Madison Square Garden Network.
