Sam Wood joined Rider University Cross Country and Track & Field as an assistant coach in Fall 2022.
Wood joined the Broncs by way of Houston, Texas and Rice University, where she spent 2021-22 as a volunteer assistant with the Owls. With Rice, Wood worked mainly with the cross country squad and helped guide the team to an NCAA Championship berth for only the seventh time in school history.
"I am really excited to have Sam join our coaching staff. She has worked with some top-level athletes with a NCAA qualifying team during her time at Rice,” said Hamer. “She will be a really valuable contributor to our program who will help our athletes in the pursuit of individual and team goals."
Before Rice, Wood attended George Mason University, where she ran for the Patriots from 2017 to 2020 in both cross county and track. On top of running at George Mason, Wood also coached at James W. Robinson Jr. Secondary School in Fairfax, VA in 2019.
Wood comes from an extremely athletic family, with both parents and siblings competing at the NCAA Divison I rank. Wood also has ties to Lawrenceville with her brother, Scott, who was a member of the Broncs’ track program from 2014 to 2017.
Wood returned to the Garden State after growing up in Florence, NJ, and attending Holy Cross Academy in Delran, NJ.
