Taylor Bernstein joined the coaching staff in 2016 for his first season coaching at Rider, working primarily with the shot putters and javelin throwers. Bernstein is also in charge of creating the lifting plans for the throwers and helps supervise and manage the weight room. He enters his second year with the team in 2017-18.
Prior to joining Rider, Bernstein was the throws coach at Stevens Institute of Technology. Bernstein was responsible for coaching all five throwing events and was in charge of the strength and conditioning of the throwers. During his time at Stevens, Bernstein had the opportunity to coach his small team of athletes to break three school records. While there, his athlete had also broken the conference outdoor shot put record. He also coached five ECAC qualifiers during his time there.
During college, Bernstein competed at Monmouth University, where he was a regional qualifier in both the shot put and discus. He was named USTFCCCA Academic American and was the MAAC Outdoor Field Athlete in 2015 after winning dual conference champion titles in the shot put and discus. Bernstein was All-East three times in shot put and was an IC4A qualifier in shot put, discus and weight throw.
Bernstein has been coaching at Thrower Nation since 2012 where he has had the opportunity to coach some of New Jersey's elite up-and-coming athletes in the throws. He also private coaches his own athletes in his spare time.
Bernstein holds his USATF Level II in the throws and is a USAW Level I Sports Performance Coach. He also conducted an independent study in the pedagogy of throws under Monmouth University coach Abe Flores, which furthered his knowledge of the javelin and other throwing events. Bernstein has a bachelors degree in physical education/health studies and general education.
