Grant West

West is entering his fourth season in 2013-14 as an assistant coach and strength and conditioning coordinator with the Rider track and field teams.

West's primary responsibilities include the design and implementation of weight training programs for throwers, sprinters, and jumpers as well as all aspects of training for the throwers.

West also assists with recruiting of the throwing events including evaluation and coordination with the admissions department. 

West assists the head coach with management and administration of the team including academic progress, clinics, community service and fundraising and he also coordinates with the athletic training staff on injury rehabilitation.

Since coming to Rider, West has coached 22 IC4A/ECAC qualifiers and one Junior National Qualifier as well as four Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champions.  Two of his student-athletes have set Rider records and both the men's and women's teams won the 2013 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

West is a former coach of Ashley Harbin, a 2012 Olympic Trials Qualifier in hammer throw, who's personal best of 62.41 ranked #15 in Great Britain.

West came to Rider from Father Judge High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he served as a volunteer coach.

West is a 2010 graduate of Temple University, earning a degree in History.

While at Temple, West earned All-Atlantic 10 Conference Team and an All-East Team honors in weight throw as a senior and was an NCAA regional qualifier, and Atlantic 10 conference champion in the hammer throw.  As a junior, West earned All-Atlantic 10 Conference Team and All-East Team honors and was an NCAA regional qualifier in the hammer throw and a Bronze Medalist at the Welsh National Championships.

As a sophomore, West broke a 15 year old Temple record by 18 feet in the hammer throw, and was awarded Temple University’s Outdoor MVP honors.  As a freshman, West was named Temple University’s Rookie of the Year.
