Brett Harvey

Brett Harvey begins his 13th season as a member of the cross country and track and field coaching staff in 2024-25 where he works with the Bronc sprinters, hurdlers, high jumpers and middle distance runners. He was promoted to Associate Head Coach in July of 2018.

In Harvey's 12 years with the Broncs, his athletes have set countless new Rider records and appear all over Rider's All Time Top 10 lists. He has had 18 athletes qualify for the first round of the NCAA Championships and athletes advance to at least the second round seven times.

112 of his athletes have earned All-East honors by finishing in the top eight at the prestigious IC4A/ECAC Championships. He has also coached 125 MAAC Champions.

The Broncs men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track & field teams both swept MAAC Championships for the second-straight year in 2023-24. Mariah Stephens earned Indoor Women’s Field Most Outstanding Performer, winning three gold medals, including the 60 meters. Devynn Lee won Indoor Men’s Field Most Outstanding Performer with two gold medals, including the high jump.  
Lee went on to earn All-East in the high jump, while Derian Stianche had a gold-medal performance in the 1,000 meters. All told, Harvey’s athletes won three gold medals at MAAC Championships and earned nine All-East honors in the indoor season.

In the 2024 outdoor season, Teagan Schein-Becker won Women’s Track Most Outstanding Performer, while Michael Palmer took Men’s Field Most Outstanding Performer. Schein-Becker won the 1500 meters at Penn Relays, breaking the Rider Record with a time of 4:09.87, before shaving her time down to 4:08.85 at the NCAA Quarterfinals to clinch All-American honors and advance to the semifinals in Eugene, Oregon. Schein-Becker became just the second Bronc to advance to the semifinals, joining Emily Ritter (3000 steeplechase in 2015). Seven of Harvey’s athletes from the men’s team earned All-East honors at IC4A Championships, including two each from Artie Burgess, Derian Stianche and Travis Lahr. Stephens added an All-East honor on the women’s side.

The Broncs returned to the top of the MAAC in 2022-23, winning both indoor and outdoor track & field championships. The men’s indoor championship was the team’s first since 2017, while the women won the indoor title for the first time since 2020. The men won indoor gold medals at MAAC Championships in the 400 and 800 and earned four All-East honors in events Harvey oversees. The women won indoor gold medals at MAAC Championships in the mile, 60 hurdles and 4x800 and earned four All-East honors in Harvey’s events, including Teagan Schein-Becker’s ECAC Championship in the 800-meters that set a new Rider record. Schein-Becker also broke the Rider record in the mile during the season and was joined by Raihana Yameogo, Hailey Palmer, and Lydia Wallace to break the program’s Distance Medley Relay record. Tamrat Snyder broke the Rider record in the 800-meters for the men. The outdoor titles were the Broncs’ men and women’s first since 2013. Artie Burgess set a MAAC Championship record in the 200-meters on his way to being named the MAAC Track Most Outstanding Performer. Teagan Schein-Becker won both the 800 and 1,500 meters on her way to earning MAAC Most Outstanding Track Performer at MAAC Championships. Schein-Becker also qualified for NCAA East Preliminary Championships and advanced to the quarterfinals in the 1500 meters. Harvey oversaw four men’s All-East performances at IC4A Championships and four gold medals at MAAC Championships. The women’s team had five All-East performances at ECAC Championships and five gold-medal-winning performances at MAAC Championships. Braeden Haines, Freddie Haynesworth IV, Jerome Boyer, and Artie Burgess broke the nearly 20-year-old Rider record in the 4x100 Relay at Princeton’s Larry Ellis Invitational. The women’s team broke multiple program records led by Schein-Becker in both the 800 and the 1,500-meters. Sarah Eskew, Oliva de la Torre Coca, Jordan O’Neill, and Schein-Becker set Rider’s 4x1,500-meters record, Lydia Wallace, Schein-Becker, de la Torre Coca, and Raihana Yameogo set a new 4x800-meter record, and O’Neill, Schein-Becker, de la Torre Coca, and Hailey Palmer combined to post a new program mark in the Distance Medley Relay. 42 Broncs earned MAAC All-Academic Team honors in both indoor and outdoor, while 25 cross country runners were honored. Schein-Becker earned All-MAAC Cross Country honors with a 10th-place finish at the MAAC Championships. Tamrat Snyder finished 13th at the MAAC Championships to earn All-MAAC honors.

A pair of Harvey’s athletes earned major awards in 2021-22, with Artie Burgess taking Most Outstanding Track Rookie in the indoor season and Teagan Schein-Becker earning Most Outstanding Track Performer in the outdoor season. The men finished second at both the indoor and outdoor championships, while the women finished third in indoor and second in outdoor. In Harvey’s events, the men won three gold medals at the MAAC Indoor Championships and earned four All-East honors. The women earned two All-East honors, including Teagan Schein-Becker’s ECAC Championship in the mile. Schein-Becker and Tamrat Snyder qualified for the NCAA Outdoor East Preliminary Championships, with Schein-Becker advancing to the quarterfinals in the 1500 meters. The men had four All-East performances at IC4A Championships and four gold medals at MAAC Championships. The women had three All-East performances at ECAC Championships and five gold-medal-winning performances at MAAC Championships. Snyder, Jerome Boyer, Artie Burgess and James Green broke the 36-year-old Rider record in the Sprint Medley Relay at Penn Relays. In cross country, the men and women both finished fifth at MAAC Championships. Schein-Becker earned All-MAAC and All-East with eighth-place finishes at both the MAAC and ECAC Championships. Snyder, Iain Taylor and Noah Taylor all earned MAAC All-Rookie Team honors as Top 5 rookie finishers at the MAAC Championships. 26 cross country student-athletes were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team, while 53 Broncs earned the honor in the indoor season to go along with 47 during the outdoor season.

The Broncs returned to action in 2020-21 with a Spring MAAC Cross Country Championship following the Covid 19 pandemic. The men finished third and the women came in sixth place. Richie Castaneda finished 15th to earn All-MAAC honors. 21 cross country student-athletes were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. While the indoor championships were canceled, Rider finished second on the men’s side and third on the women’s side at the MAAC Outdoor Championships. The men won three gold medals at the meet.  Darnell St. Clair won the high jump and was also second in the triple jump on his way to being named the MAAC Field Most Outstanding Performer. The men’s team would go on to place fourth at the IC4A Championships. Alenys Morales took gold in the 400 hurdles at the MAAC Championships. Kristin Siegle qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Championships in the 1,500-meters, where she placed 31st and set a new program record in the event. Harvey coached the Broncs to five men’s All-East performances and four on the women’s side. 10 from the men’s team and five from the women’s team earned All-East honors and 48 Broncs overall were named to the MAAC All-Academic Teams.

While the 2019-2020 season was cut short due to Covid-19 the indoor season was a special one as the women's team captured the MAAC Indoor Track and Field Championship for the first time since 2013.  Harvey's athletes led a dominant showing in the sprints and high jump as they went 1-2-5 in the 400m, 1st in the high jump as well as 3-4-6 in the hurdles and a runner- up showing in both the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. His athletes also contributed the 400 and 800 legs of the MAAC Champion Distance Medley Team.  The women's 4x400 and 4x800 went on to both break the Rider record at the ECAC Championships with the 4x800 earning All-East honors by finishing 6th.
 
On the men's side freshman Sam Aviles captured MAAC Rookie of the meet honors as he won the 60m hurdles and took 2nd in the 60m dash. The men overall took 1-4-6 in the hurdles, 3-4 in the 200m and 4-6-8 in the 400m and 3-4-5 in the 800m while also winning the 4x800 and taking 3rd in the 4x400.
 
During the 2018-19 campaign, Harvey saw both the men's and women's teams finish second at both the MAAC Indoor Championships and MAAC Outdoor Championships. Freshman sprinter Sophia Castronovo was honored as the MAAC Women's Track Rookie of the Meet while Sara Gardner ended her storied career with by making the NCAA Quarter- finals in the 100 hurdles while also capturing the indoor and outdoor ECAC and MAAC hurdle titles.  Gardner graduates holding the MAAC 100 hurdle record (13.41) and holding 4 Rider records.  She was named the Rider Female Athlete of the Year for both 2018 and 2019.
 
Also in 2019 the quartet of James Green, Dalin Hackley, Noah Rivera-Sharp and Jerome Boyer ran 3:14.40 to set a new Rider 4x400 indoor record and Paris Boucher, Nicole Berry and Andrea Benites were ¾ of the team that set a new women’s 4x800 record of 9:06.93.
 
Additionally, Nate Bowie captured the MAAC indoor and outdoor hurdle titles and the men’s 4x400 won both the indoor and outdoor 4x400 titles. Cleopatra Morrison also captured the MAAC women’s 60m dash crown.  Harvey also coached the Broncs to a 1-2 sweep of the women’s MAAC high jump both indoors and outdoors with Quinn Bithell and Sara Gardner going 1-2 outdoors and reversing the order for the indoor season.
 
Rider won the 2017 Men's Indoor Metro Atlantic Conference Championship as well as the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Championships and Harvey's athletes have combined to win 40 MAAC Individual and Relay titles.
 
2017 saw Sophomore Sara Gardner rewrite the Rider record books as she smashed the 60 hurdle (8.51), 100 hurdle (13.79) and shuttle hurdle (56.72) records. Gardner's 60h and 100h times both broke the old MAAC records.  She also finished as the ECAC Runner-up both indoors and outdoors in the hurdles, the highest finishes ever for a Bronc hurdler.
 
Senior Daria Chadwick captured the indoor high jump MAAC title and also earned All-East honors outdoors in the high jump.  Other 2017 MAAC Champions included Freshman Nate Bowie (60h- 8.09), Junior Chris Patrick (110h - 14.68) and the men's 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 relays. Senior Scott Wood earned All East Honors as a member of both the indoor and outdoor 4x800's that each earned a 3rd place finish.
 
In the indoor season on the women’s side, he has coached program record holders in the 55m, 55m hurdles, 60m, 60m hurdles, 200m, 800m and 4x800. He has coached the athletes with the top-three times in the 60m, the top-seven spots in the 60m hurdles, the top-two in the 200m, the top-three in the 800m and the number two mark in the 4x400 relay.
 
On the men’s side, he has tutored the program record holders in the 500m 4x400 and 4x800 relay. He has also mentored athletes with the second, third and fourth best marks in the 400m, the second and third fastest times in the 4x400 relay, five marks in the top-ten in the 60m hurdles, the top-three times in the 4x800 relay, four top-10 times in the 110m hurdles, two top-seven marks in the 200m and the top-six marks in the 400m.
 
In the outdoor season on the women’s side he has coached program record holders in the 100m, 200m, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 4x800 relay, 4x100 relay and the DMR. On the men’s side, he has mentored record holders in the 110m hurdles, 400m and the 4x800.
 
In his role as recruiting coordinator the Broncs have welcomed the three largest recruiting classes in program history with those athletes breaking school records, winning conference titles and contributing to conference team titles.
 
Harvey came to Rider from Georgian Court University, where he was named the 2012 USTFCCCA Division II East Region Coach of the Year. During his time at Georgian Court, Harvey coached 12 Division II NCAA Qualifiers, one Regional Athlete of the Year, 16 All-Region team members and 22 Conference Champions.
 
Harvey was the head coach of the women's track & field team since 2008 and had been tabbed to lead the women's cross country program and to start the men's cross country and track and field programs.   At Georgian Court Harvey founded the women's program and won Conference Outdoor titles in 2011 and 2012 and an Indoor title in 2012.
 
A 2004 graduate of Lafayette College, Harvey has also coached at former MAAC-rival Loyola Maryland (head coach of women's track, assistant coach of men's and women's cross country) where he was the 2007 MAAC Coach of the Year and American University (assistant men and women's cross country and track & field).  During his time at American the Eagles made two consecutive NCAA Championship appearances in men's cross country and produced an All-American.
 
Harvey is a USATF Level 2 Certified Coach specializing in the Sprints and Hurdles.  He also recently completed his USTFCCCA Specialist Certification.
 
Harvey and his wife Kristi live in Wayne, Pennsylvania with their children William and Sadie.
