Samantha Mayer ’12 joined the Rider Softball staff prior to the 2025 season. Mayer came to Rider following the 2024 season at Monmouth, while also serving in past roles as 12U head Coach of USA Softball and as an Assistant Coach at Saint Peter’s. In addition, Mayer has extensive experience coaching club softball.
In 2024, Mayer collaborated with Head Coach Shannon Salsburg at Monmouth to develop game strategies, in-game adjustments and overall program direction.
As 12U Head Coach at USA Softball in 2020, Mayer coached All-American games in Oklahoma. She scouted and recruited top-tier talent nationally, successfully signing 15 high-caliber athletes. Mayer organized and hosted tryouts, managed scheduling and logistics and coordinated travel logistics.
In addition to spending 2012-13 at Saint Peter’s, Mayer is the Owner/Coach of Legacy Softball Academy. She founded the academy and is the head trainer, specializing in developing young athletes’ skills and preparing them for collegiate-level play. She also spent 10 years (2013-22) as Organization Director and Head Coach of RKE Jaxx, leading the 14U, 16U and 18U teams to multiple tournament victories and league championships.
A 2012 Rider graduate with a degree in sociology, Mayer started 69 of 101 games played over three years, finishing with 53 hits after transferring in following her freshman year at Caldwell College.
