Chip Keeler begins his 3rd season on the track and field staff in 2018-2019. During his first two years Keeler has coached 4 MAAC Champions, 4 All-East performers, a MAAC Indoor Performer of the Meet and 2 MAAC Rookie of the Meet performers.
During the 2018-2019 track and field season Freshman Ayo Oyowole captured both the indoor and outdoor MAAC Rookie of the Meet awards while leaping to the 2nd farthest jump in Rider history with his 24'2.25" long jump. Oyewole also was 4th at the outdoor IC4A Championships, capping a great freshman season.
Michael Horn also became the first Bronc jumper to the advance to the NCAA First Round as he leaped to a 50'6 in the triple jump.
Daniella Izzo was the indoor MAAC Pole Vault Champion and Allen Killiebrew captured the outdoor MAAC Triple Jump title.
During the 2017-2018 school year Keeler mentored Asia Young to indoor and outdoor long jump titles. Young was also named the MAAC Indoor Field Event Performer of the Meet at the 2018 indoor championships. Young and Lindsay Bauer captured the Broncs first 1-2 long jump sweep at the outdoor championships as both also eclipsed 19'0.
Keeler served as a graduate assistant at Emporia State in Kansas. During his time with the Hornets, he integrated pedagogical strategies to maximize each individual’s potential, recruited high impact athletes who immediately scored in the conference and orchestrated efficient practices to optimize performance in the jumps.
“I am very excited to join such a talented and energetic group of coaches and athletes,” Keeler noted. “I had so much curiosity about what the coaching staff was doing to build such a talented roster and what they were doing to achieve all their recent success that this position became an obvious choice for my own coaching development. The team is rising towards being a dominant force in the conference and I cannot wait to get started working toward our next championship.”
Before joining the staff at Emporia State, Keeler was a sprints and hurdles intern at Altis in Phoenix, Arizona. His responsibilities while at Altis included assisting coaches with daily practice plans for elite level U.S. Track and Field athletes and presenting research based information to coaches on topics such as Planning, Periodization, Nutrition, and Injury Prevention.
Keeler graduated from Colby-Sawyer College in May of 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management with a coaching certificate. He earned his Master of Science in Health, Physical Education and Recreation last May from Emporia State.
