Patricia "Tricia" Carroll completed her 21st season at the helm of the Rider University softball team with 401 wins in 2015.
In 2015, for the second time in three seasons, Rider placed a player on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference First Team with Dana Sensi a unanimous selection as an infielder by the 11 league coaches after batting .380 with 13 home runs and 12 doubles.
For six years, Carroll coached both softball and field hockey at Rider.
In 2006, for the third time in four seasons, Carroll led the Broncs to a berth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference postseason tournament and, for the second time in three years and third time in five semesters, the softball team posted the highest team grade point average of Rider's 20 varsity sports with a GPA of 3.44 during the Fall 2006 semester. Every student-athlete on the softball team that was eligible (sophomore or higher) received MAAC All-Academic honors for the 2006 season. Under Carroll, the team also had the highest GPA at Rider in the fall of 1997 and the fall of 2004.
Since the 1999 season, Carroll has coached four conference Rookie of the Year award winners (Devin Karcesky, Heather Beintema, Deanna Dovak, Allysen Breeden), two Player of the Year honorees (Dovak and Colleen Fox) and a Pitcher of the Year (Beintema). Both Fox and Dovak are members of the Rider Athletics Hall of Fame. Since 2002, she has also had 13 First Team and 12 Second Team All-Conference honorees. In 2005, Maddy Boulden was named the South Jersey Coaches' Association Player of the Year. Carroll coached Rider's first All-America honoree in 2001 (Dovak). In 2000, two of Carroll's players (former Assistant Coach Michelle Walsh & Dovak) received All-Region honors and three more earned All-Region honors in 2004 (Maddy Boulden, Amanda Tu and Heather Beintema). Dovak also was awarded All-Region honors in 2001 and 2002.
In 2006 and 2007, two of Carroll's former players, Courtney and Brandey Weed, played on the PFX Pro-Fastpitch X-Treme softball tour. The team featured six Olympians including pitcher Lisa Fernandez.
In 2004, Carroll led the Broncs to a 35 win season, tying the school record, and the team advanced to the MAAC Championship game.
In 2003, Carroll was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for guiding a young (no seniors) team to its first berth in the MAAC tournament and to the MAAC Championship. Carroll led Rider to the NCAA National Championship tournament for the second time in seven years and was the Rider University Coach of the Year.
Carroll led her first three softball teams to the Northeast Conference Title Game, winning the NEC in 1995 and 1997 and finishing runner-up in 1996.
Carroll joined the Rider Department of Athletics in August of 1994 from Drew University where she guided the 1993 Drew field hockey team to a 9-5-2 record and to the semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship.
A 1987 graduate of the University of Maryland, Carroll played four seasons at shortstop on the Catholic University softball team before changing majors and transferring to Maryland.
Carroll is a native of Detroit, Michigan, and served as head coach of the Catholic University softball and soccer teams for one season after four seasons as assistant field hockey and softball coach. She has been a physical education teacher and assistant director of the Newton Field Hockey camp.
