LITTLE FALLS, NJ - The Rider baseball team fell behind early and was unable to recover as NJIT used a fast start at the plate to claim an 11-1 victory in seven innings on Tuesday afternoon at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Broncs fall to 17-9 (12-3 MAAC), while NJIT improves to 10-17 (2-7 America East).
NJIT jumped out in front with three runs in the first inning and added another in the second to take an early 4-0 lead.
The Highlanders continued to build their advantage in the third, scoring three more runs to push the lead to 7-0, before tacking on another in the fourth to make it 8-0.
After NJIT scored in each of the first four innings,
Jared Greenzang provided a strong relief outing, entering in the fifth and retiring the side in order.
Rider got on the board in the sixth when
Will Gallagher was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, followed by a single from
Kyle Neri to put runners on the corners.
Anthony Paskell brought a run home with a groundout to third, cutting the deficit to 8-1.
NJIT answered right back with two runs in the bottom half of the sixth and added another in the seventh to secure an 11-1 run-rule victory.
