Baseball Falls 8-3 as Marist Evens Series

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - The Rider baseball team fell to Marist, 8-3, on Friday afternoon at Sonny Pittaro Field, as the Red Foxes used a three-run fourth inning and late insurance to even the series at one game apiece. The Broncs fall to 16-8 (11-3 MAAC) while Marist improves to 11-18 (11-3 MAAC).

The Broncs loaded the bases in the bottom of the second but were only able to push across one run to open scoring, as a Will Gallagher fielder's choice made it 1-0.

Rider threatened again in the third, loading the bases for the second straight inning, but came away empty as Marist worked out of the jam to keep it a one-run game.

The Red Foxes responded in the fourth, plating three runs to take a 3-1 lead and swing the momentum.

After a quiet stretch through the middle innings, Marist added to its advantage in the seventh with an RBI triple followed by a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5-1, then tacked on two more in the eighth to make it 7-1.

The Broncs answered in the bottom half of the eighth. Back-to-back one-out singles from Gallagher and Erich Hartmann set the table before Kyle Neri loaded the bases with a base hit.
Anthony Paskell followed with an RBI single to center, and Nick Shuhet lifted a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to 7-3.

Marist answered right back in the ninth, capitalizing on a Rider error to add an insurance run and push the lead to 8-3, holding on to even the series at one game apiece.

Quotes and Notes
"They found holes when they needed to, and we hit balls right at them. We made a few mistakes defensively, but we had chances to score and just couldn't come up with the timely hit. We had hits throughout the game, just not the big two-out hit to spark an inning like we've been doing. Batt gave us a solid start, and the bullpen did its job, but when you only have one run through seven innings, it's tough to win. We've got to come out tomorrow, execute, pitch well, and be ready to go. I expect we will be." - Acting Head Coach Dr. Barry Davis

- Gallagher and Neri each extended their on-base streaks to 24 games, while Shuhet and Paskell pushed theirs to 23.
- Paskell extended his hitting streak to 13 games, while Neri pushed his to 11.
