Peter Crespo Goes Yard in 12th to Walk It Off as Broncs Take Thriller Over Fairfield in Game One Marathon

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – After two days of weather delays, the Rider baseball team finally closed out game one of its crucial series against Fairfield, earning a dramatic 2-1 walk-off win in 12 innings on Saturday afternoon.

Game 1 (Resumed on 5/15, Finished 5/17)
The Broncs struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning when Kyle Neri lifted a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home Joe Tiroly, who showcased his speed to open the scoring.

Play was halted shortly after due to inclement weather and resumed Friday morning with the Stags threatening in the top of the sixth and a runner on first.

Fairfield tied the game with a base hit to center in the sixth and nearly took the lead in the seventh, loading the bases with one out. But Rider's defense came through with a clutch 6-5-4 double play to escape the jam and keep things even.

Rain forced another stoppage in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, Peter Crespo at the plate, and Matt Leahy on first.

When play finally resumed Saturday morning, the teams remained deadlocked until the bottom of the 12th, when Crespo stepped in and crushed the first pitch he saw over the fence for a solo walk-off homer—sealing a gritty game one win and keeping Rider in the hunt for the MAAC regular season title and the tournament's top seed.
