BUFFALO, NY – Clutch RBI knocks from
Joe Tiroly and
Kyle Neri fueled a three-run ninth inning, lifting Rider Baseball to a 6-3 win over Canisius and locking up the road series victory in Buffalo on Saturday afternoon.
Anthony Paskell wasted no time getting the Broncs on the board, launching his third home run of the season in his first at-bat to give Rider an early 1-0 lead.
The Broncs added to their advantage in the top of the third, as
Kyle Neri lifted a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-0 ballgame.
Canisius responded in the bottom of the fourth when Mason Cisco delivered a three-run homer to put the Golden Griffins ahead, 3-2.
Rider quickly answered in the top of the fifth. Back-to-back hits from Neri, who ripped a triple, and
Nick Shuhet, who followed with an RBI single, tied the game at 3-3.
Chris Montone took the mound in relief of
Kyle Batt in the bottom of the seventh and came up big in a tense eighth inning. With two outs and runners on second and third, Montone worked a full count against Justin Bremner before freezing him on a clutch strikeout to keep the game tied.
In the top of the ninth, Canisius recorded two quick outs before Paskell drew a walk and
Erich Hartmann was hit by a pitch to put two runners aboard.
Joe Tiroly once again came through in the clutch, delivering a base hit that, combined with a Canisius throwing error, allowed both Paskell and Hartmann to score and give Rider a 5-3 lead.
Neri capped the rally with an RBI single to center, scoring Tiroly and extending the Broncs' lead to 6-3.
Zach Silifes closed the door in the bottom of the ninth, allowing just one hit while striking out three to secure the series-clinching win for the Broncs.
