LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Behind solid pitching from
Clayton Poliey and timely offense, Rider baseball capped off the weekend with a 6-4 win over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon to clinch the series victory on Sonny Pittaro Field.
Mount St. Mary's struck first with a sacrifice fly in the opening inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Rider answered in the bottom of the third when
Kyle Neri singled to center, bringing home
Anthony Paskell to tie the game at one.
In the following inning,
Joe Tiroly launched a solo home run to left field, his 11th of the season and third of the series, to give the Broncs a 2-1 advantage.
Rider added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, capitalizing on a throwing error that allowed
Nick Shuhet to score following Tiroly's homer, pushing the lead to 4-1.
Mount St. Mary's got one back in the top of the fifth, scoring on a Bronc fielding error to cut it to 4-2.
Will Gallagher would add insurance for the Broncs with a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Jake Dorety took over on the mound for
Clayton Poliey to start the seventh inning.
Later in the seventh,
Charley Magoulick doubled to center field to drive in Shuhet, making it a 6-2 game.
Mount St. Mary's threatened in the ninth, loading the bases with one out and scoring two runs on consecutive walks to trim the deficit to 6-4. With the bases still loaded and two outs,
Zach Silfies came in and shut the door, securing the series win for the Broncs.
