STATESBORO, GA –
Olivia Burroughs (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual) collected a pair of hits, but the Rider University softball team fell in a pair of games at the Hail Southern Classic Saturday. The Broncs fell to Maryland, 5-0, and Georgia Southern, 4-0. With the losses, the Broncs drop to 3-13.
The Broncs dropped the first game of the day to Maryland on five unearned runs in the fifth. A two-out error allowed the first run to score, before back-to-back home runs – the first a three-run jack – accounted for the five runs.
Fallyn Stoeckel (Nutley, NJ/Nutley),
Abby Cruz (Corona, CA/Santiago), Burroughs and
Emma Morgan (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) had one hit each in the contest.
The long ball again plagued the Broncs against Georgia Southern, with two-run home runs in the fourth and fifth innings accounting for the four Eagles tallies. Burroughs collected her second hit of the day against Georgia Southern, while
Aspen Wheeler (Lampasas, TX/Lampasas) also had a base hit and
Kendall Reda-Fehsal (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) drew a walk.
