Softball Falls to Saint Louis

Luedtke goes 2-for-2, Cruz homers

KENNESAW, GA Maddie Luedtke (Gibbstown, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology) went 2-for-2, but the Rider University softball team fell to Saint Louis, 13-1 in five innings Saturday in Kennesaw State Tournament action. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 2-6, while the Billikens improve to 6-7.

The game got off to an inauspicious start, with the Billikens' first three batters immediately scoring, following a double, an RBI single and a two-run home run. The Billikens would score eight unanswered runs, adding one in the second and four in the top of the third. The Broncs scored their lone run of the game on an Abby Cruz (Corona, CA/Santiago) solo home run in the bottom of the third.

The Billikens kept their foot on the gas, scoring four more in the fourth and a single tally in the fifth to enact the mercy rule.

Notes
- Kathryn Schmierer (Racine, WI/Racine Lutheran) started in the circle and took the loss, allowing eight earned runs on nine hits, three walks and a HBP over 2.2 innings pitched. She struck out two.
- Gabi Rodriguez (Chula Vista, CA/Olympian) pitched 0.2 innings of relief, allowing four earned runs on three hits and three walks, while striking out one.
- Anna-Marie Groskritz (Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) finished the game, allowing one earned run on two hits and a walk, striking out three in 1.2 innings pitched.  

Broncs by the Numbers
- Luedtke went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles.
- Cruz's home run was the first of the year for her and the Broncs as a team.
- Shea Johnson (Carlsbad, CA/Cathedral Catholic) collected her first collegiate hit.
- Olivia Burroughs (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual) and Shelby Dyer (Clarksboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) each reached on a walk.
