Women's Swimming and Diving Sweeps Tri-Meet

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's swimming and diving team swept a tri-meet in Coppola Pool Saturday afternoon, topping Siena 220-76 and Sacred Heart 172-127. The Broncs improve to 2-3 and 2-2 in MAAC meets, while the Saints drop to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in league meets. The Pioneers split on the day to go to 5-2 overall and 2-2 against MAAC opponents.
 
The Broncs won 10 events in the meet, including setting a pair of pool records.
 
To open the day, the team of Aubree-Claire Alewine-Flores (Jefferson, GA/Jefferson), Liv Turner-Havira (Archbald, PA/Scranton Prep), Rachel Hutchins (Elkridge, MD/Annapolis Area Christian School), and Donja Tripp (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame) combined to swim 1:46.54 to win the 200-medley relay.
 
Casey McLaughlin (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) followed with a win in the 1,000-free, swimming 10:45.22.
 
In the 100-breast, Turner-Havira and Chloe Cheevers (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark) finished one-two, stopping the clock at 1:07.49 and 1:08.23. Cheevers would later win the 200-breast with a time of 2:27.30.
 
Tripp was then the first to set a pool record, winning the 50-free in 23.57. Sonya Mishakova (Bali, Indonesia/Australian Independent School Bali) finished second, swimming 24.42. Out of the break, the duo then went one-two in the 100-free, touching the wall at 52.59 and 52.72.
 
In the 200-back, Alewine-Flores, Casey Morgan (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), and Chas Ruatos (Lodi, NJ/Immaculate Conception) swept the event for the Broncs, going 2:08.26, 2:08.42, and 2:11.16.
 
Hutchins swam 58.79 to win the 100-fly.
 
The Broncs closed out the meet with the second of their pool records. Mishakova, Tripp, Lea Opdyke (Ocala, FL/West Port), and Morgan combined to swim 3:33.51 to win the 400-free relay.
 
NOTES & QUOTES
- Alewine-Flores and Ruatos were two-three in the 100-back.
- Ava Smith (Vineland, NJ/Cumberland County Tech) and Megan Smith (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) went two-three in the 200-fly. Ava Smith was also third in the 100-fly.
- Karyn Creelman (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) was second on the 1-meter.
- Opdyke and Megan Smith finished two-three in the 500-free.
- Hutchins finished second in the 200-IM.
