LITTLE SILVER, NJ – The Rider University women's tennis team swept all six singles flights en route to a 6-1 victory at Monmouth Friday night. With the win, the Broncs improve to 1-4 on the season, while the Hawks fall to 3-3.
Daniela Naves (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) and
Claire Brown (Duluth, GA/Northview) earned a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles. But the Hawks took wins at Nos. 2 and 3 to take the doubles point and a 1-0 match lead.
Chloe Monachelli (Somers, NY/Somers) and
Maria Buss (Bocholt, Germany/Bischöfliches St.-Josef-Gymnasium Bocholt) battled, but fell at No. 3, 6-4, to Faith Sadgrove and Becky Fisher, while
Elle Catanzarite (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and
Laila Fishman (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro) fell to Ximena Cano and Lauren Landstrom, 6-2, at No. 2.
The Broncs earned straight-sets victories at all six singles flights to cruise to the 6-1 victory. Fishman defeated Brezanin, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1, while Buss made quick work of McKinney, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2. Brown defeated Landstrom, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 3, while Naves battled to her second win of the day, 6-3, 6-4, over Cano at No. 4.
Monachelli earned a hard-fought victory over Sadgrove, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2), at No. 5, while Catanzarite closed out the victory with a 6-3, 6-4, win at No. 6 over Fisher.
The Broncs return to action Sunday, when they travel to Lehigh. First serve from Bethlehem, PA, is scheduled for 3 p.m.
