Baseball Rallies Late To Take Finale at Mount St Mary's, 8-3

Broncs score six in the ninth to take game three at the Mount

,EMMITSBURG, MD- The Rider University baseball team scored eight runs in the final two innings, capping off their series vs. Mount St Mary's with an 8-3 win on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Rider moves to 22-20 on the year and 13-5 in the MAAC while the Mount moves to 15-30-1 and 9-9 in the MAAC.

Rider was led by a stellar start from sophomore Clayton Poliey (Ringwood, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) who went six and two-thirds scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, allowing on four hits on the day. Poliey held the Mount in check throughout blanking the Mountaineers and putting the Broncs in a great position through seven innings.

In the top of the eighth Rider saw their first runs of the game come in as Jack Winsett (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) and Luke Lesch (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) both walked to get runners on base. After a passed ball the pair moved into scoring position and Erich Hartmann (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) drove both in to score on a base hit to the first base side putting Rider up 2-0.

In the bottom of the inning, Mount responded with a solo home run to cut the lead to one run, and eventually tied the game at two off a line-drive base hit to right.

The Broncs' offense exploded in the ninth as Luke Lesch gave Rider back the lead in the biggest way possible launching a ball to right with the bases loaded giving Rider a 6-2 lead off the grand slam. Rider went on to add two more runs in the inning as Richie Sica (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) and Matt Leahy (Woolwich, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) both scored runs on base hits to cap off the six-run top of the ninth.

The Mount added one run in the bottom half of the inning but Will Gallagher (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) wrapped things up to help Rider take the series finale over Mount St Mary's.
