WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – Rider University men's golf sophomore Ben Ortwein (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) shaved 10 strokes off his opening-round score to shoot 75 (+3) Tuesday in the second round at the NCAA West Lafayette Regional at the Kampen-Cosler Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. At 160 (+16), Ortwein stands tied for 69th.
Ortwein began the round strong for the second-straight day with two par's and a birdie on the Par 4, 482-yard 3
rd hole. After carding consecutive bogey's, Ortwein pulled back to even par with a birdie on the Par 5, 598-yard 6
th hole. He then had par's on each of the next 10 holes, before finishing his round with a double bogey and a bogey, respectively, on the 17
th and 18
th holes.
NOTES
- Vanderbilt leads the team scoring at 560 (-16), a stroke ahead of host Purdue (561, -15).
- Purdue's Kent Hsiao shot a seven-under 65 Tuesday to take the individual lead at 136 (-8), three strokes ahead of two players from Vanderbilt and another from Mississippi State (139, -5).
