Ben Ortwein Begins NCAA Regional Play Monday

Ortwein to compete at NCAA Regional in West Lafayette, IN

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – Rider University men's golf sophomore student-athlete Ben Ortwein (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) will take part in the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Regional Championships at at the Kampen-Cosler Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, IN, hosted by Purdue University, May 13-15. The regional field features 13 teams and 10 individuals.

Ortwein earned the automatic berth to the NCAA Regional Championships by virtue of his McLeod Trophy win as MAAC Individual Champion. Ortwein shot four-under for the tournament, carding consecutive three-under 69's in the second and third rounds to ascend to the top of the leaderboard.

Ortwein joined two-time McLeod Trophy winner Austin Devereux (2021, 2022) to give Rider three of the last four MAAC Individual Champions. He's posted a 73.56 stroke average across 25 rounds this year, finishing in the Top 10 three times in 10 tournaments played.

In addition to the 2022 MAAC Team Champions, Ortwein joins Devereux and Rider Hall of Famer William "Buzz" Costello (1964) in competing at an NCAA Regional Championship.
