LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – Rider University men's golf senior Mike McCrone (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) shot even-par 72 (T-5th) and all five Broncs in the line-up shot 75 or better Friday as the Broncs shot 294 and sit in 6th place after the first round at MAAC Championships at Disney's Palm Golf Course.
A stroke behind McCrone was Connor Bekefi (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) at 73 (+1), while Ben Ortwein (Easton, PA/Notre Dame) shot 74 (+2). Both Louie Giovacchini (Windermere, FL/Windermere) and Pelle Ahlqvist (Habo, Joenkoeping, Sweden/Sandagymnasiet) shot 75 (+3) to round out the Broncs' line-up.
NOTES
- Siena leads the team scoring 285 (-3), three strokes ahead of Fairfield (288, E). Rider (294, +6) is within two strokes of Mount St. Mary's (292, +4, 3
rd) and Iona and Manhattan, both tied for fourth at 293 (+5).
- Siena's Nolan Crowley leads the individual leaderboard at 69 (-3).
- McCrone sits in an eight-way tie for fifth at even par.
- Rider's even-par performance on the Par 3's was the second-best team score on the day, while the Broncs' -4 on the Par 5's was the third-best mark.
- McCrone began the day with an eagle on the Par 5, 488-yard 1
st hole, before carding a birdie on the 421-yard, Par 4 2
nd hole. After bogeys on the next four holes, McCrone carded 11 pars and a birdie the rest of the round.
- Ortwein had a team-high five birdies on the round, while Giovacchini had four, Bekefi had three and Ahlqvist had two.
- The Broncs' 16 birdies on the day was second-most.
