LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Fallyn Stoeckel (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) and
Kristyn Gardner (Perryville, MD/Perryville) had two hits each as the Rider University softball team took the series finale vs. Siena Sunday, 3-1, at Herb & Joan Young Field. With the win, the Broncs improve to 13-23 (6-6 MAAC), while the Saints slip to 21-12 (7-4 MAAC).
The Broncs opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the second.
Maddie Luedtke (Gibbstown, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology) was hit by a pitch to get things started before Gardner singled and
Kendall Reda-Fehsal (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) walked to load the bases with no one out. The Broncs plated the game's first run on a
Kiersten Buchanan (Holly Springs, NC/Holly Springs) base hit to right, before
Olivia Burroughs (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual) followed with another RBI single to center. After a flyout double play cut down a run at the plate, Stoeckel pushed across another run with an RBI single to left to make it 3-0 Broncs after two.
The Saints threatened in the fifth, putting runners on second and third with one out and loading the bases with two away. But Broncs starting pitcher
Jessie Niegocki (Marana, AZ/Mountain View) induced a flyout to end the frame. Siena pushed across its first run of the game in the top of the seventh as Emma Peterson led off with a double and scored on a Jocelyn Ulrich single with no outs. The Saints again threatened, loading the bases with two outs, but
Anna-Marie Groskritz (Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) induced a grounder to Niegocki, now playing second base, for the game-ending fielder's choice.
