Baseball Falls in Liberty Bell Classic vs Delaware

Broncs fall 18-2 in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, PA- The Rider University baseball team fell in the Liberty Bell Classic Championship game to Delaware 18-2 on Wednesday night. Following the loss the Broncs snap their 11-game win streak and fall to 13-15 and Delaware moves to 17-14 on the year.

The Blue Hens started the game off strong scoring a run in the first and a pair of runs in the third. However, the biggest damage was saved for the fourth inning, where Delaware scored 11 runs on 10 hits including three home runs in the inning.

The Broncs saw offense in the bottom of the fourth as Matt Shepherd (Drexel Hill,PA/Monsignor Bonner|Rowan College of South Jersey) recorded a lead-off base hit and was eventually brought in to score by Joe Tiroly (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) on a sacrifice fly to start the Broncs scoring. The Broncs did end up loading the bases with two outs in the inning thanks to a knock from Anthony Paskell (Solon, OH/Saint Ignatius), however they would leave the bases loaded and go into the fifth trailing 14-1.

The Broncs added their second run of the game in the following inning as Shepherd reached base for the second straight inning scoring Kyle Neri (Williamstown, N.J./St. Augustine Prep|Bryant)to add another run for Rider.

Delaware added four more runs in the top of the sixth to go ahead and secure the Liberty Bell Classic title 18-2.
