LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Seton Hall pitchers Kelsey Carr and Kyra Kreuscher both spun complete-game shutouts as the Pirates swept a doubleheader from the Rider University softball team, 3-0 and 6-0, Tuesday afternoon at Herb and Joan Young Field. With the losses, the Broncs fall to 6-14, while Seton Hall evens its record at 11-11.
In Game 1, the Pirates broke a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. A leadoff double and a one-out single plated the first Seton Hall run, before an error put the Pirates on top, 2-0, after four and a half. Seton Hall also got a solo home run from Lauren Caye in the sixth to push to a 3-0 lead, which was more than enough support for starting pitcher Kelsey Carr, who hurled a complete-game, three hit shutout, striking out 12.
The Pirates scored first in Game 2 on four-straight singles in the second to take a 2-0 lead. Back-to-back home runs in the third made it a 4-0 Seton Hall lead. They'd tack on two more insurance runs in the sixth and cruise to the 6-0 victory.
