QUEENS, NY– The Rider University Baseball team dropped the final matchup of the weekend series with St John's, 13-1, on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, Rider moves to 2-13, and St John's moves to 13-4 on the year.
The Broncs looked strong starting off the ball game as Luke Lesch (Gloucester TWP, NJ/ Gloucester Catholic) started the afternoon's scoring with his team-best 10th RBI of the year scoring Anthony Paskell (Solon, OH/Saint Ignatius) to put Rider on the board first. The Red Storm did however find an answer in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a solo home run from Ben Beauchamp.
The Red Storm continued to splash runs across all throughout the early innings adding runs in each of the first four innings to go up 11-1 after four.
The Broncs did see runners on base in the latter stages of the ball game starting in the sixth where Justin Costanzo (East Greenwich, N.J. Gloucester Catholic [Widener]) doubled to put two in scoring position with two outs. The Broncs went on to load the bases an at-bat later thanks to a hit batter, but couldn't capitalize with the bases juiced.
In the seventh, the Broncs suffered the same fate as they had the bases loaded for a second straight inning with only one away but went down scoreless in the inning. Rider also had a pair of runners on the bases in the eighth and ninth but failed to drive any runs in dropping the finale at St Johns 13-1.
