Men's Tennis Defeats College of Charleston, 4-3

Slattery, Turgambekov both win twice en route to victory

HILTON HEAD, SC – Ibragim Turgambekov and Nathan Slattery (Nenagh, Ireland) won at both singles and doubles as the Rider University men's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over the College of Charleston on Thursday. With the win, the Broncs improve to 3-13, while the Cougars fall to 3-13.

Rider won the doubles point on the strength of wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Slattery paired with Jake Grimes (Atlanta, GA/Johnson Ferry Christian Academy) at No. 2 to defeat Matias Gaedechens and Juan Diego Rojas Mora, 6-1, while Turgambekov and Giacomo Ghitti (Brescia, Italy/Marco Polo) earned a 6-4 win over Jordyn Larke and Brolin Dorsey at No. 3 to clinch the point.

In singles, Slattery and Turgambekov each won in three sets at Nos. 2 and 4, respectively, while Jonathan Arbittier took a 6-2, 6-2, win over Evan Pugh at No. 6. Slattery defeated Gaedechens, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 2, while Turgambekov got past Larke, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4 to clinch the match.

"You felt something special was going to happen today," said Rider Head Coach Tom Battaglia. "From the first point of doubles, the energy was intense. Guys played with complete discipline, purpose and most of all, passion. That's all we ever ask for. Sky is the limit for this team when they play like this."

The Broncs return to action Friday, when they face South Carolina State.
