HILTON HEAD, SC – The Rider University women's tennis team fell to George Washington, 7-0, in the opener of its spring trip to Hilton Head, SC, on Monday. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 2-7, while George Washington is now 1-7.
George Washington took both doubles flights that were completed, with No. 3 being halted with the Revolutionaries leading, 4-3.
Jett Coetzee (Miami, FL/Miami Palmetto Senior) and
Sofia Gutierrez (Miami, FL/Palmetto Senior) forced third sets in their singles matches at Nos. 4 and 6, respectively, but fell. The Revolutionaries took the remaining four singles flights in straight sets.
"Battled hard at 4-6 today," said Rider Head Coach
Tom Battaglia. "They were tough throughout the lineup honestly. Just made balls and took care of business during critical points. Better teams do that. We need to learn and move on."
The Broncs return to action Tuesday, when they face Saint Louis in Hilton Head, SC.
