Men's Tennis Falls at Lehigh, Competes at Ranger Invitational

BETHLEHEM, PA – The Rider University men's tennis team fell in a dual match at Lehigh, 4-0, Saturday morning. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 2-9, while the Mountain Hawks are now 3-4.

Lehigh swept the three doubles flights, with Nathan Slattery (Nenagh, Ireland) and Jake Grimes (Atlanta, GA/Johnson Ferry Christian Academy) coming closest to a victory, pushing Sean Jaeger and Jordan Paul, before falling, 7-6, at No. 2.

In singles, the Mountain Hawks took wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 4 to halt the match. Stavros Hadjivarnava (Moutagiaka, Cyrus/British College of Gava) was a game away from winning his match at No. 3 when the Mountain Hawks clinched the match. Hadjivarnava led Aristotelis Bezianis, 6-3, 5-3, at the time the match was halted. All the matches were competitive, with Matthew Griscti falling at No. 1 to Matt Kleiman, 6-4, 6-3, Roger Martinez falling to Marc Blekhman, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2 and Cooper Dillon falling to Jaeger, 7-6, 6-2, at No. 4. The remaining singles matches at Nos. 5 and 6 did not start.


In other action, a separate contingent of Broncs competed at the Ranger Invitational in doubles. Vishal Ganeshan (Sydney, Australia/Knox Grammar School) and Giacomo Ghitti (Brescia, Italy/Marco Polo) posted a 4-0 record on the day, while Elyad Oshnavie (Asker, Norway/Asker) and Jonathan Arbittier (Mendham, NJ/Dallastown Area) went 3-1. Tommy Fuentes (Montreal, Quebec/Lower Canada College) and Chris Polish (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Baldwin School of Puerto Rico) posted a 2-1 record.

The Broncs return to action Sunday in a dual match at Monmouth, as well as rounding out competition at the Ranger Invitational. The Monmouth dual is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Little Silver, NJ.
