Baseball Topped By ETSU, 3-1

Broncs fall in opener in Tennessee

JOHNSON CITY, TN – The Rider University baseball team dropped their opening contest vs East Tennessee State, 3-1, on Friday afternoon. With the loss, Rider falls to 0-4 and ETSU moves to 4-1 on the new campaign.

The Buccaneers were able to strike first off of a first-inning solo home run from Cameron Sisneros to put ETSU up 1-0 early. Following the home run, the Broncs' offense tried to strike back, peppering a trio of hits past ETSU starter Carter Fink in the second inning by Luke Lesch (Gloucester Township, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Kyle Neri (Williamstown, N.J. St. Augustine Prep Bryant) and Jack Winsett (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional). However, they were not able to capitalize.

Rider's starter PJ Craig (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) backed up the solid offensive second inning by helping get the Broncs out of the bottom of the frame, sitting down the Bucs 1-2-3 with a strikeout to end the inning.

However, the Bucs found a pair of runs in the third and fourth, respectively, as ETSU catcher Noah Webb homered in the fourth to put the Bucs up, 3-0.

Justin Costanzo (East Greenwich, N.J./Gloucester/Catholic Widener) recorded his first hit as a Bronc in the seventh, driving Winsett home in the process to make it a 3-1 ball game. But the Buccaneers held on for the 3-1 victory.
