Women’s Soccer Unable to Hold Off Manhattan’s Late Surge in 2-1 Loss

RIVERDALE, NY – The Rider women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought match against Manhattan on Wednesday night, falling 2-1 as the Jaspers capitalized on a late goal to secure the win. Despite a strong start and competitive play through most of the game, the Broncs couldn't hold off Manhattan's pressure in the second half. The Broncs fall to 1-7-3 on the season.

The Broncs struck quickly, with Courtney Carter opening the scoring in just the eighth minute of the match. The early goal put Rider on the back foot, but the Jaspers showed resilience, finding an equalizer before the halftime whistle. The first half proved to be evenly matched, with both teams recording seven shots each and going into the break deadlocked at 1-1.

In the second half, the Jaspers turned up the intensity, eventually outshooting the Broncs 19-9 overall and holding an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. Rider's defense, led by solid goalkeeping by Ellie Sciancalepore and tenacious play, held strong against Manhattan's sustained attack for much of the half. However, with about 12 minutes left on the clock, the Jaspers broke through with the decisive goal, seizing a 2-1 lead.

Rider fought to create chances in the closing minutes but couldn't find the equalizer. Despite the loss, the Broncs demonstrated determination and promise, especially in their ability to match Manhattan's energy early in the game.
