Sciancalepore's Seventh Shutout of the Season Powers Broncs Past Marist in Playoff Chase

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – On a crucial Sunday afternoon, the Rider women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Marist, collecting three vital points to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Broncs move to 4-9-3 on the season.

The decisive moment came in the 28th minute when Tess Ferrie delivered a perfectly placed cross from the left flank. Margret Fridriksson timed her run to perfection, rising above the defense to head the ball into the net, giving the Broncs a 1-0 lead.

Despite being outshot 14-5 by Marist, the Broncs made the most of their opportunities, with all five of their shots on target. Marist held a slight 6-5 edge in shots on goal, but Rider's goalkeeper Ellie Sciancalepore was in outstanding form, stopping every attempt that came her way. Sciancalepore's efforts were crucial in securing her seventh shutout of the season and the 22nd of her career, as she commanded the defense with poise, making several critical saves to preserve the clean sheet.

Marist continued to push for an equalizer throughout the match, controlling possession and applying pressure, but Rider's defense, backed by Sciancalepore's leadership in goal, held firm. The Broncs managed the game well in the closing stages, keeping Marist at bay and protecting their slim lead.

The victory not only secured three important points but also kept Rider's postseason aspirations alive as the regular season nears its conclusion.
