PHILADELPHIA – The Rider University women's tennis team was defeated by Drexel, 7-0, in its Spring opener Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 0-1, while the Dragons improve to 1-0.
The Dragons swept all three doubles matches and all six singles flights to take the 7-0 victory.
Avery Oppenheim (Marietta, GA/Walton/Georgia Connections) and
Elle Catanzarite (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) were the most competitive duo at No. 3, falling to Adva Dabah and Rebecca Fiedler, 7-5.
In singles,
Laila Fishman (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro) pushed Lorie Lemongo at No. 1, but fell, 6-2, 7-6, in the most competitive singles match of the six. No other Bronc won more than three games in a set or four in a match.
The Broncs return to action Sunday, when they face Army West Point at 2 p.m. and Sacred Heart at 5 p.m. in West Point, NY.
