LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Rider University baseball team secured a series victory Saturday afternoon, defeating Siena, 7-4. The Broncs improve to 22-9 overall and 7-2 in league play, while the Saints drop to 5-27 on the year, and 1-5 in MAAC games.
Rider opened the game offensively in the second.
Richie Sica (Wycoff, NJ/Ramapo) reached on a one-out error.
Will Gallagher (Cranford, Cranford) then singled through the left side. After an errant curve ball hit
John Volpe (Sea Girt, NJ/Wall) to load the bases,
Scott Shaw (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) jumped on the first pitch he saw, sending it over the right-field fence and off of a window on the library roughly 420 feet away for a grand slam.
In the third,
Brendan O'Donnell (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) cranked a solo home run to extend the lead to 5-0. The Saints would respond in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the lead back to four at 5-1. In the sixth, a three-run home run would trim the lead to just 5-4.
The Broncs had an answer in the top of the seventh.
Luke Lesch (Gloucester Twp., NJ/Gloucester Catholic) hit a swinging bunt for an infield single with two outs. O'Donnell that crushed his second home run of the day, extending the lead back to 7-4.
