Broncs Break 4x800m Record at 127th Penn Relays

Broncs break 4x800m record for second straight year at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, PA and EWING, NJ-  Rider Women's Track and Field would continue their record-breaking weekend, as the 4x800m relay team of Teagan Schein-Becker, Oliva de la Torre Coca, Lydia Wallace, and Raihana Yameogo would break the Rider record at the 127th running of the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania and Franklin Field.

The Broncs would finish 2nd in the College Women's 4x800 running an 8:48.92 to set a new Rider record. The team would break the previous best of 8:49.99 set by Wallace, de la Torre Coca, Schein-Becker, and Mackenzie Greenfield at last year's Penn Relays. This is the second Rider record broken on the weekend as yesterday the team of Jordan O'Neill, Hailey Palmer, de la Torre Coca, and Schein-Becker would break the Rider record in the DMR.

In Ewing, Rider would take home 1st and 2nd place in the long jump as Karissa Watson and Samantha Butler would jump 5.46m and 5.33m at TCNJ.

In the 400m, Alenys Morales would set a new PR at the Lion Invite winning the race and running a 57.72. The top place mark breaks Morales's previous best of 58.41 which she set at the MAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships finishing 5th in the winter season.

QUOTES AND NOTES
"It was a tough loss today. The women were really hoping to win but we just fell a bit short. We left too much work for Teagan on the anchor leg. She made a valiant effort to catch up but just ran out of gas over the last 50 meters. Oliva ran a great second leg to help claw us back to the end of the pack and Lydia gave Teagan a chance. Sometimes you don't get that big goal and you need to learn and grow from it for the next time" -Rider Head Coach Bob Hamer

"The women had a nice day today. Karissa and Sam Butler competed well in the long jump finishing 1-2. This is the kind or performance and effort we will need next week at the MAAC meet. For them to be successful in challenging weather conditions is a sign of really good things to come… Alenys had a great win the 400 in 57.72. It is the number 8 time all-time at Rider. It is a really great effort by her. She is a big-impact athlete for us and today was a great indicator of that. … We are looking forward to the MAAC Championships next weekend. The work has been done and we just need to put on the final touches and compete.  "-
