LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University baseball team fell behind early and could not mount a comeback, falling 10-2 to Canisius Friday afternoon. The Broncs fall to 22-11 on the season, including 7-3 in MAAC play, while the Golden Griffins improve to 13-15 overall and remain unbeaten at 7-0 in league games.
Canisius jumped out an 8-0 lead thanks to a run in the first, three in third, and four in the fourth.
The Broncs answered in the bottom of the fifth.
Jordan Erbe (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South[UMass]) sent a 1-2 pitch over the fence in the deepest part of the park in left center to put Rider on the board.
In the sixth,
Brian Skettini (Midland Park, NJ/Ridgewood) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Two batters later,
Brendan O'Donnell (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) hit a single to right. With two outs,
Jack Winsett (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) and Erbe drew back-to-back walks to bring in a run and trim the deficit to 8-2.
The Golden Griffins added a pair of runs in the eighth to produce the final score.
