BALTIMORE, MD – The Rider University women's tennis team fell at Loyola (Md.), 7-0, Monday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 4-12, while the Greyhounds are now 8-11.
Andrea Sydow (Las Querenzas, Mexico/Prepa Net ITESM) and
Raquel Bolin (Plantation, FL/Xceed Preparatory Academy) earned a 6-3 win over Madison Metzdorf and Taylor Kuncl at No. 3 doubles. But the Greyhounds took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2.
Agnese Ceccarelli (Arezzo, Italy/Liceo Classico Francesco Petrarca) and
Daniela Naves (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) lost a tightly-contested match to Lauren Manwiller and Christine Richiez, 7-5, at No. 1, while
Avery Oppenheim (Marietta, GA/Walton/Georgia Connections) and
Sofia Gutierrez (Miami, FL/Palmetto Senior) fell to Olivia Tracey and Liza Tankimovich, 6-2, at No. 2.
The Greyhounds then took all six singles flights to win the match, 7-0. Oppenheim and Killin each took a set at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively, but fell in 10-point tiebreakers with the match already decided.
"Again, it's the same things we talk about match after match," said Rider Head Coach
Tom Battaglia. "We lack the ability to problem solve and sometimes we just go through the motions. When things get tough, we have to learn how to adjust. Luckily, we get right back out there tomorrow."
The Broncs return to action tomorrow, when they travel to Villanova. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
