NEWARK, DE – The Rider University baseball team could not complete the series sweep over Delaware on Sunday, falling 13-2 in seven innings. The Broncs fall to 7-4 on the year, while the Blue Hens improve to 4-7.
Rider got on the board first in the second.
Brian Skettini (Midland Park, NJ/Ridgewood) led off the inning with a single. A double by
Jack Winsett (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) put runners on second and third with no outs. After
Anthony Paskell (Solon, OH/Saint Ignatius) was hit by a pitch to load the bases,
Jordan Erbe (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South [UMass]) hit a sacrifice fly to drive in one, and
John Volpe (Sea Girt, NJ/Wall) brought in a second run with a sacrifice bunt.
Delaware responded in the bottom of the inning with a two-out single that scored one.
The Blue Hens broke open the game in the third. Three Rider pitchers combined to allow 11 runs on just six hits, aided by an error and six walks. Six of the 11 runs were unearned.
The Broncs put just three men on base over the remainder of the game, while the Blue Hens added a run in the fifth to produce the final score.
