RICHMOND, VA – The Rider University baseball team was unable to complete the series sweep, falling 9-4 in the series finale at Richmond Sunday morning. The Broncs fall to 10-5, while the Spiders improve to 7-8.
The Broncs got off to a strong start in the first.
John Volpe (Sea Girt, NJ/Wall),
Brian Skettini (Midland Park, NJ/Ridgewood), and
Luke Lesch (Gloucester Twp., NJ/Gloucester Catholic) all walked to load the bases with two outs.
Brendan O'Donnell (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) brought everybody home with a towering drive to left center for a grand slam.
The Spiders broke through in the fourth, taking advantage of multiple defensive miscues from the Broncs to plate nine runs.
Neither side would score in the remainder of the game as both bullpens were strong to close out the series.
