LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's swimming and diving team opened the 2023-24 season with a 186-100 dual-meet loss to Seton Hall Saturday afternoon.
The Bronc women won four events in the meet.
Hannah Yemec won both 200-fly and 100-fly in her first career meet, posting times of 2:12.11 and 58.41, respectively.
In the 200-IM,
Casey McLaughlin (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) led a one-two-three finish for the Broncs. She posted a time of 2:17.94. She was followed by
Lea Opdyke (Ocala, FL/West Port) in 2:21.50 and
Suriya Pathammavong (Rochester, NY/Churchville Chili) in 2:22.14.
The 400-free relay team of
Chastity Ruatos,
Mallory Mead (Middle River, MD/Dulaney[Oklahoma Christian]),
Paola Carlesso (Caracas, Venezuela/The New School Medellin[Colegio Simon Bolivar]), and
Connar Melcher (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) swam 3:44.26 to earn the victory to close out the meet.
NOTES & QUOTES
- McLaughlin also claimed third in the 1,000-free and the 200-fly.
- Opdyke took third in the 200-free.
- Ruatos finished third in the 100-back.

Sarah Fondacaro (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) took second and Pathammavong finished third in the 100-breast. Fondacaro later took third in the 50-free.
- Mead touched the wall third in the 200-back.

Alexa Torres (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) was third in the 100-fly.
- On the 1-meter,
Maiti O'Connor earned second place.
